Five Tips to Wind Down After the Holidays

The holidays can be a very stressful time of year for a lot of people.  Between buying gifts, and figuring out where the money to buy gifts is going to come from, to Holiday parties and seeing family you haven’t seen all year, the Holidays bring about a lot of socializing and shopping.  Believe it or not, this can be EXHAUSTING!

Don’t let the Holidays win you over this year.  You can still find ways to relax!

Here are my tips on how to wind down once the Holidays are over.

1. Light a fire and turn on a movie.  

After the long Holiday weekend, sometimes, you just need to relax, light a fire, and watch a movie.  With how busy you have been, you at least need one day to catch up on your Netflix series!  Lay down on the couch, cozy up in your favorite blanket, sit by the fire, and just relax.  Full disclosure, this is exactly what I am doing now and I do not feel one ounce of guilt about it.  Luckily, I know a few ways to help you relax even more.  Make your favorite blanket a heated blanket.  This helps you relax, while keeping you warm during these cold, winter days.

If you don’t have a fireplace, Netflix or Youtube both give options for an electronic fire place experience.  Just turn up the heat in your house and turn on your electronic fireplace experience and you are good to go! Or, if you feel like splurging some of the money you got from the Holidays, you can purchase your own smokeless fireplace! Pretty cool the technology that is out there now a days, isn’t it?!

2. Make a warm cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate.

On a cold winter day made for relaxing, there is nothing better than whipping up your favorite warm drink and sipping on it.  You can even pair this nice warm drink with your activities from number 1! Sipping on your drink, while sitting by the fire, under your warm heated blanket, and watching a movie.  It literally does not get any better than that.  I love a nice, warm cup of tea.  I use my tea pot every single day.  I love loose teas and all of the health benefits these teas offer!

3. Spend all of your Holiday money shopping.

At my age, no one in my family really knows what to give me besides money.  This is not something I am complaining about because I sure do love some online shopping the day after.  Of course, I save some for later use, but I have to at least spend some on something I usually wouldn’t buy myself.  This is also something you can add to 1 and 2, they can all be done simultaneously.  I am doing all of these and writing this post all at once and I am relaxed to say the least!

4. Take a warm bath.

There is nothing more relaxing to me than a bubble bath.  There are so many products you can add to your bath in order to take your relaxation to a new level.  I personally prefer to add some relaxing bath salts to my bath.  The salts dissolve and gives off an extremely relaxing aroma.  They are also known to help your muscles react.  Mixed with the warm bath water, this is a match made in heaven!  I also love a classic bubble bath.  There are so many different relaxing scents you can add to your bath.  Light a candle, read a book, you deserve it!

5. Read a book.

How often do you just get to sit around and read a book?  If your life is anything like mine, its probably not very often.  Open up the new Harry Potter book or indulge in the top seller The Girl on The Train and enjoy yourself.  Let time slip away.  The holidays are (almost) over so relax! Combine this with number 4 and bring your book into your warm bath with you.  Stack up the relaxation and enjoy yourself!

You work so hard all year, you have every right to take a day or two to relax! So sit yourself down, try some of the techniques listed above, and most importantly, RELAX!

  8. It’s like you read my mind! These are all my favorite ways to relax. I don’t think I enjoy anything more during the winter than cuddling up next to the fire to watch a great movie on TV.

  14. I like the relaxing and watching a movie idea, along with the coffee/hot cocoa suggestion. Those are great ways to wind down after a busy time. In fact, this morning I wanted my coffee that much more after a semi-busy Christmas day yesterday, and I didn’t even do that much for the holiday lol. If I had gotten some money for Christmas, I would have been spending it while I ran errands today, that’s for sure… there are a bunch of things I need and want, that’s for sure!
